Our second year in in D Section, 1985 brought several personal highlights:
•    Scott Cowley won the VAFA D Section best and fairest
•    Chris Brent topped the D Section goalkicking with a Club record 106 goals – and then kicked another 9 in two finals!
•     Geoff Kennedy topped the D Reserves goalkicking with 61 goals, with another 7 to come in the finals
•    Craig Robison & Andrew Allibon were selected in the VAFA CDEF State team

After nine rounds both the Firsts and Reserves were on top of the ladder, with the Firsts undefeated. The Reserves had won eight and lost one. And at the end of the home and away games, both teams remained on top - the Firsts undefeated, and the Reserves with 16 wins and only 2 losses.

The Firsts won both the second semi-final and the grand final to achieve an undefeated season, a well-deserved premiership and promotion to C Section.
Firsts second semi-final:
Old Trinity:            4.5    8.9    10.13    13.15.93

Goals: Brent 5, Allibon 3, Glass 3, O'Shaughnessy 3, Norman 2, Sammut, Gee
Best: Pontefract, Norman, R. Heath, Robison, Allibon, Maizels

The Reserves, after thrashing Old Mentone in the second semi-final, went down by 12 points to the same team in a disappointing upset in the grand final - not helped by Billy Karvela getting suspended after the second semi (for a very minor incident…), and losing a couple of key players to injuries early in the grand final.
Reserves second semi-final:
Old Trinity:                    0.2    2.4    6.5    15.8.98
Old Mentonians:    2.3    2.7    2.8       3.8.26
