1954 – 1975 ERA REUNIONS

Memorable reunions were held in 1991 and 2010. The above reports on 1954-75 are drawn from a booklet compiled by Rod DeBoos and Roberts Moore following the 2010 reunion - with the invaluable assistance of Jane Carolan (TGS historian), Peter A Birrell, Ian Mason and Bruce Wardrop.

That booklet contained a postscript which warrants repeating here:
“A FAMILY CLUB”
A significant and essential element in the development of the OTGAFC in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s was the bond between the players and the supporters; both on and off the field. In the report on 1957, Ian Mason recorded the role in the development of the Club that a strong social life played in the early days. The importance of this continued into the 60’s & 70’s when the lack of clubrooms led to the tradition of holding after game drinks (“AGDs”) at players’ homes.
These, and the social functions that evolved from them, became immensely popular, and did much to develop the culture of the Club, lasting friendships, strong commitment, and ultimately success in that era. The support, generosity and tolerance(!) of so many parents and friends needs to be acknowledged. Whilst  there  is  insufficient space  to  do  justice  to  all, highlights included the Cox/Curtis  parties at  105 Alfred Crescent, presentation days at Norm Latchford’s, the Daly’s and the Galbraith’s, and the regular “blockbuster” spit-roast parties at Eric and Joan DeBoos’s house in Belmore Road where the sounds of Neil Diamond’s “Hot August Night” still resound.
