Sadly, there were insufficient numbers to field a competitive women’s team in 2025, but the Club remains committed to its women’s programme.
After just falling short in the preliminary final in 2024, could the Firsts finally get back to Premier Section? They made a strong start, being in 2nd place after 9 rounds with 7 wins and 2 losses. Coming off their premiership, the Reserves were 1st at 8-1. The Thirds were also 1st with 8-1. The U19s were 9th (4-5). The three senior sides continued their strong form. The Firsts, Reserves and Thirds all finished 2nd in their sections, with 14-4, 15-3 and 12-4 respectively. The U19s came in 8th with 8-8.
The First had been neck and neck with Old Ivanhoe all year. In the end they pipped us for top spot by just 1.84%. But the Trinity boys had the scent of Premier Section in their nostrils and defeated their arch-rivals in the second semi-final. The 17 point win might look comfortable on paper, but we were kicking against a strong wind in the last quarter. In the second quarter Ivanhoe had used the wind to kick 6 goals to our 1. In a hard fought last quarter, we held them to just 6 points and kicked 1.1 ourselves.

In a shattering blow for Old Ivanhoe, they fell to Caulfield Grammarians in the preliminary final, and so we faced Caulfield in the grand final. We had already earned promotion to Premier, but could we go all the way? Things looked good after we opened up a six goal lead at half-time, but managed only 1-6 to 5-5 for the rest of the game. But that was enough(!), and the premiership was ours.

An especially sweet win, the first senior’s premiership since 1999. And to top things off, Harry Thompson was awarded the medal for best player in the grand final.
Could the Reserves match the Firsts grand final win, and claim their second successive premiership? They started well, also beating Old Ivanhoe in the second semi-final in a tight, low scoring game.

But sadly, two in a row eluded them, going down to Fitzroy in the grand final by just 8 points.

The Thirds had earned the double chance but couldn’t make the most of it. Old Xavs 4 had a comfortable win in the second semi-final.

If the Thirds were to contest the grand final, they needed to beat St Kevin’s 2 in the preliminary final. In a low scoring, nerve racking, game there was never more than 6 points between the teams. Trinity had lead all day (just!) and held on to win by 2 points.

Which just left the daunting challenge of facing Old Xavs in the grand final. In another nail biter, the Thirds prevailed by 5 points. A great effort to bounce back after losing the second semi final, and exact revenge on Old Vavs. A well-earned premiership.
