Harry Thompson says he was only state player in 2023
After 9 rounds the Firsts were again in relegation territory, and this time to Premier C. They were 8th with only 3 wins and 6 losses. However, the other teams were having better years. The Reserves were 5th on 5-4, the U19s 2nd (6-3), the 3rds 4th (5-4) and the Women’s 4th (4-4-1). In the second half of the season the Firsts replicated the first half. Thankfully they finished just out of the relegation spots in 8th place with 6-12. The Reserves squeezed into 4th place (11-7), the U19s got to 2nd also 11-7. And the Women’s team held on to 4th with 8-7-1. The Thirds slipped to 5th with 7-7.

Despite woeful goal kicking, the Reserves won a nail-biting first semi-final against Beaumaris.

They then went on beat Fitzroy in the preliminary final

However, in the grand final, after we lead by 11 points at half time, St Bernards blew us away in the second half, demonstrating why they had lost only one game during the year

We led all day in a hard fought tussle in the preliminary-final, running out winners by 11 points.

But we were facing Beaumaris again in the grand final, mindful that they had not lost a game in 2023. Our boys put on a much better show than two weeks previous, but had to settle for runners-up.
