We entered 2021 with a lot to chew on. After the false start in 2020, the Under 23s finally got out on the park for their inaugural season, and we added a second U19s team in Division 4. Eight teams, 281 players registered, 102 in their first year (255 played at least one game). Average age 23, average total games 36.
However, sadly Covid intervened again, and another lockdown saw the season abandoned after only 11 games.
When the season was abandoned, the Firsts were languishing at the bottom of the ladder on 1 win and 10 losses, with relegation looming large. However, relegation and promotion between Premier and Premier B was suspended for a year, meaning that we would play in Premier in 2022 for the ninth consecutive year.
The eleven rounds that were played delivered only lean pickings across the board for Old Trinity. The Reserves were 9th with 1-10, the Women’s Firsts & Reserves were both 7th with 2-8, the U19s Div 1 & D4 sides, and the U23s were all 5th, respectively on 5-6, 5-5-1 and 5-6. The 3rds were 4th with 5-6. They would likely have played finals but for the Covid lockdown.
A coaching change midway through the year saw Bernie Dineen part ways with the club, and James Francis take over the coaching reins.[CONTEXT?]
