After just surviving in Premier Section in 2021, we needed to up our game in 2022. We reverted to a single women’s team, and a single U19s.
But the going was again tough, and after 9 rounds all teams were struggling. The Firsts again languished at 9th with only 2 wins and 7 losses. The Reserves were 10th (1-8), the U19s 6th (3-6), the Women’s 7th (1-6) and the U23s 6th (3-6). However, the Thirds were showing the rest of the Club how to do it – they were 2nd on 4-2.
The second half of the season was almost a repeat of the first half. The Firsts finished up 9th with 3-15, meaning relegation to Premier B Section. The Reserves finished 9th (4-14), the U19s 6th (5-13) and the Women’s 7th (2-9). The U23s had been desperately short of numbers in the middle of the year and had had to withdraw from the competition. But the Thirds were to play finals football, finishing the season in 2nd position with 8 wins and 4 losses.
Xavier had been the best team all year in 3rds Division 1, only losing one game. But in a real upset, we thumped them in the second semi-final.

Old Xavier regrouped and won their way back into the grand-final via the preliminary final, and sadly, on grand final day, they were too good.
