2018 was Brendan Iezzi’s last year in the green and gold.
The year brought an influx of new young players. During the season the Firsts played 41 different players, with an average age of 23. Fifty different players took the field in the Reserves.
Amateur teams often struggle for numbers, but our Women’s team had the opposite problem – they had 47 registered players, but only 24 spots each week!
Jacob “Chilli” O’Neill topped the goal kicking in the U19s Section 3 with 37 goals. Anthony Scott was selected in the VAFA State team and was in the best players, and Imogen Barnett was selected in the Women’s state team.
After 9 rounds the Firsts were 5th with 4 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw. The Reserves were 8th (2-7) the U19s 4th (5-4), the Thirds 2nd (7-2) and the Women’s 7th (2-5). At season’s end, the Firsts were destined to play finals football again, finishing 4th with 10 wins, 7 losses & 1 draw. The Reserves were 8th (5-13). The U19s were also finals bound finishing 3rd (12-5-1), as were the Thirds - 4th with 10-6. The Women’s team finished 6th at 5-9.
What would the finals bring? Not as much as we hoped, because after a convincing win over Old Brighton in the first semi-final, the Firsts were defeated by St Kevins by 63 points in the preliminary final.

Unfortunately, the U19s couldn’t kick straight, and went down to Marcellin in the first semi- final.

The Thirds heartbreakingly went down to their old nemesis, Fitzroy, in their first semi-final by a solitary point - kicked in the dying seconds of the final quarter. Trinity was left rueing some wasteful kicking for goal.
