Our second year in A Section.
A real highpoint of the season was Chris Hansen winning the VAFA A Section best & fairest award with 32 votes. Chris scored votes in 12 of the 14 matches he played including nine best on grounds. He was also selected in the VAFA state team and the All Australian Amateur team. Chris subsequently played 101 games for Fitzroy (1977-1982).
After 9 games the Firsts were sitting just outside the four in fifth position with 5 wins and 4 losses. The Reserves were 8th on 4-5. The Firsts won a further five games in the second half of the year to miss the final four on percentage, finishing with 10 wins and 8 losses. The Reserves finished ninth with just 4 wins, 13 losses and a draw.
