After the high expectations and disappointing performance of the previous year, 2003 was altogether different. We had a fairly untried young lot which we affectionately termed the “no names” side. After two initial thrashings things looked pretty grim and we were readying ourselves yet again for relegation. However, all of a sudden, the football universe turned on its head and we won 11 of the next 16 games, missing the finals by half a game. Many, including Carlson, believe this was our most satisfying year in A Section notwithstanding what was to follow.
Andrew Ramsden was captain of the VAFA state team, and also a joint winner of the A Section most valuable player award. Lincoln Reynolds & Andrew Allibon were also selected in the state team. Ramsden and Reynolds gained selection in the Australian Amateur Football championship team of the year.
Joel Aitken won the VAFA U19 Section 2 best and fairest (Scott Krakouer was runner-up).
After 10 rounds the Firsts were 6th (5-5), the Reserves 7th (4-5-1), the U19s 7th (5-5) and the 3rds 6th (3-6). At the end of the season, the Firsts finished 5th (11-7), the Reserves 8th (5-12), U19s 5th (11-7), and the 3rds 6th (5-9). So, no finals for Old Trinity in 2003.
